Welcome Invitation

If you’d like a better life, you’re in the right place because there is hope for having a great life, not one of mere existence. We are so glad you’ve found our website. We represent a recovery community that has experience with many addictions, and we want to help others who are hurting as we once did. All of us have been in extreme emotional pain ourselves, and understand the feelings, fears, and worries that may plague you today.

On this site there is a list of many different types of meetings. Going to your first recovery meeting is the hardest one! Once you are there you need to do nothing else except listen. If you choose, you can share your first name as we do so around the circle. It’s our prediction that as you sit during a meeting, you will hear people talk about some of the same issues that you are dealing with today. There are many excuses people use for not going to recovery meetings, but that only prolongs getting solutions for unbearable pain. Know we are here when you are ready. It will be the best thing you’ve ever done for yourself and your loved ones.

So, welcome to the Hickory area website – a site dedicated to all Twelve-Step groups. It is our belief that no matter which “recovery door” you come through, the solution is the same: The Twelve-Steps.

Recovery has helped many of us in the western North Carolina area, and we’re willing to share these solutions with you – cost free. We’ll show you how we finally found a way to free ourselves from addictions (some obvious and some hidden), how we greatly improved our self-esteem, and how we changed our dysfunctional behaviors. There are weekly recovery meetings, recovery camping trips, seminars and workshops, media nights, gatherings on the holidays, Step meetings, meditation retreats, all focusing on the Twelve Steps.

The Twelve-Step recovery groups are open to everyone. Know that you’re welcomed and invited to join us at any meeting or event.

The 12th Step

“Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all our affairs.”

To this end, this Web site was created.

The purpose of this Web site is threefold:

  1. To share “experience, strength, and hope” using technology.
  2. To provide a list of meetings covering all types of recovery groups available in the area around Hickory, North Carolina.
  3. To provide a listing of local events involving recovery.

Therefore, this site contains information about an ever-growing number of local meetings, a calendar with dates about events plus links to flyers giving more details about the event, and personal stories from individuals about how they are applying the philosophy behind the recovery program. Recovery principles are applied at work, in the neighborhood, in community groups, and with our families and friends.

We invite all in the recovering community to submit information about meetings, upcoming events, and even stories about your recovery journey. Also feel free to contact us with your questions, recovery resources, your favorite slogans, or suggestions.

The term “Hickory Area” is used to mostly include the Unifour Area (Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba Counties) but also includes surrounding counties, and sometimes regional and national events.
